Overview of Softball Programs: Please read

Effective for the 2012 season, QVSB will be sponsoring the following softball programs:

• 8U Coach Pitch 
• 10U Modified Fastpitch 
• Combined 12U/14U Fastpitch
• 18U Fastpitch
• NOTE: T-ball is offered as a co-ed sport and is listed under the baseball program.
  

The 10U modified and 12U fast pitch teams will now be competing in the Moon Area Softball League. We believe that participation in this league will better meet the skill levels of our players and the transportation needs of our families.

Slow pitch will no longer be offered at the 10U level for the following reasons:

• The modified format combines girl-pitch and coach-pitch, therefore taking pressure off of a pitcher and acknowledging that pitching is a skill that progressively develops. Using this format of play, batters can no longer walk. If four balls are thrown to a batter, the batter’s coach will come in and pitch to her until she either hits the ball or strikes out.

• Because there are no walks, more balls are hit and put into the field of play, therefore players get more opportunities to field in their positions.

• Runners may steal second or third base but not home plate. This makes base running more exciting for the players and makes the fielders more aware of where the runners are during every pitch.

Since one of the main goals of our program is to improve the skill level and teamwork of players and this is best done through increased participation, we believe that encouraging players to take part in a modified fast-pitch team will not only increase their level of interest and knowledge of the game, but it will also help to make the transition to 12U fast pitch much more successful.
