Supplemental Training

Off-Season Camps

Western Pennsylvania is blessed by a large number of experienced soccer coaches that are involved with the youth soccer programs in our area. Many of these coaches sponsor camps during the year that our club members will utilize to help provide their children with supplemental training. ORVFC pursues a policy of not advocating one specific camp over another. We leave that up to each participant to evaluate which is the most appropriate for his/her needs. When evaluating a specific camp there are certain questions you might want to ask the coordinator to help with your decision-making process:

  • Does the camp break the children out by age group and/or gender? For example, is the camp able to train a group of 8 year old boys as one group, 9 year old boys as another group, etc. Or does the camp mix its registrants all together? If so, what is the age range and how does the camp try and differentiate activities to be age appropriate?
  • Is the curriculum that the instructors follow documented in anyway? Can they at least provide highlights of the lesson plans to you verbally?
  • What is the background of the coach? Has the coach been through any licensing? Has s/he coached your child’s age group in a team environment in the past? Which teams?

Many camps will work with clubs that bring an entire team to the camp. Therefore, if you are child is playing for an ORVFC team and there is interest for the team as a whole to go to the camp or potentially design a camp where the coaches come to you in our area, please contact the ORVFC Club President to discuss.

Professional Clubs

There are two professional soccer teams in our immediate area and then 3 more within a 3-4 hour drive from here. Professional clubs will generally have some sort of program to work with the children in the community they are located. Click on the names below to be taken to their websites.
