Program Adjustment Summary
Spring, 2009
To help improve our chances for achieving our goals and long‐term results, we will make the following changes to the program in the spring season of 2009:
| Program Change |
Desired Objective |
| Group by grade |
- Teaming occurs at the grade level
- Create continuity of play among a pool of 20‐30 players in each grade by gender
- Players can easily drop out for a season (other sports) but then re‐join in subsequent seasons with same players and retain continuity
- Players are largely grouped with players they are socially and emotionally connected to from school
|
|
Training sessions
3v3 competition
|
- Focus is on many, many touches on the ball for all players
- Accelerates technical skill development for all players
- Players able to play with their friends regardless of ability or commitment level
- Able to utilize professional coaches for training and volunteer coaches with varying levels of experience to monitor the 3v3 matches
|
|
Team(s) at grade level
Player evaluations and selection
No set rosters from season to season
|
- Creates additional competitive outlet for the player with the ability and commitment to do more
- Players have to continually earn a place on a competitive team which keeps motivation up
- Players not selected for a competitive team one season can work hard in 3v3 and earn a spot in the following season
- The selection of the team is designed to introduce a player to the larger sided game but not make it the primary focus
- Better able to field a team in appropriate level of competition
- Clear and consistent evaluations for the player so the player becomes accountable for improvement and to earn the right to play on a competitive team (if so desired)
